FIELD OPERATIONS DISASTER RESPONSE UNIT

The Field Operations Disaster Response Unit consists of former U.S. law enforcement officers (federal, state and local) and former U.S. military service members. Its primary purpose it to provide additional manpower to the agency, when activated by the Sheriff, during critical incidents.

The Field Operations Disaster Response Unit may assist with critical or large-scale incidents, such as hurricanes, natural disasters, or other critical events.

This is an uncompensated volunteer position.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of federal, state, and/or local law enforcement
    experience (leaving in good standing)  OR
  • Must have 5 years of military special operations forces experience or served in
    an occupational specialty categorized as combat arms or military police within a U.S. military branch (with an Honorable Discharge) AND
  • Separation from service must be within the previous 5 years.

Background Process:

All applicants must successfully complete a background check, to include a Psychological Exam and a Drug Screen.  In addition, applicants must possess either a CCW or HR-218 license.

Commitment and Training Expectations:

  • Attend and participate in a 4-day training consisting of classroom instruction, firearms qualifications, and scenario-based training.
  • Based on the volunteer’s background and level of performance, participate in a number of field-based exposure training shifts where volunteers will be paired with a certified deputy to provide exposure to Patrol Operations.
  • On a quarterly basis, volunteers will be required to participate in designated Pasco Sheriff’s Office in-service trainings (Use of Force, Active Threat, & Firearms Qualification) and complete at least one field-based ride along shift lasting at least 10 hours in length.
